Wadduwa is a tropical paradise, and `bound-to-be' reminiscent of that well-known coconut snack bar advert. This is hardly surprising, as it lies amongst coconut groves and has golden sands and swaying palm trees. Wadduwa is often described as laid-back and this is why it's such a popular Sri Lanka holiday resort.

Wadduwa is 70 kilometres from the international airport and is situated on the west coast of Sri Lanka, just 35 kilometres from Colombo. For those wishing to take a day trip to Colombo, the city can be easily accessed by train. There is also a good rail service on a coastal line which will provide a pleasant diversion from beach lounging.

Wadduwa is still a working village, the main occupation being fishing, and there are one or two good fish restaurants in the area. The majority of restaurants are to be found in the many hotels that fringe the beach.

Quiet resorts such as Wadduwa usually provide good evening entertainment and local bars typically offer traditional music. There is not a great deal in the way of bars or clubs in Wadduwa - the beach is the main attraction here.

For shopping there are craft shops and boutiques, selling traditional goods such as masks and wood carvings.

Wadduwa is a well known venue for ayurveda treatments, an ancient eastern programme of diet, meditation and yoga. Amongst many ayurveda spas in Sri Lanka, Siddhalepa Ayurveda Health Resort is right on Wadduwa beach.
