Day 1

Depart after breakfast from your Sri Lanka beach hotel. Our journey takes us northeast to Habarana and the Cinnamon Lodge Hotel. In the afternoon we begin our sightseeing with a visit to Polonnaruwa, a former Sinhalese capital dating from the 11th & 13th centuries. Polonnaruwa houses temples, figures and carvings, and includes the incredible Gal Vihara, huge Buddha images carved into the granite rock.
Dinner, Overnight & Breakfast in Habarana.

Day 2

Following breakfast we drive the short distance to the 600ft rocky outcrop of Sigiriya rising almost vertically from the surrounding scrub and jungle. With a fortress bearing the ruins of King Kassapa's Palace dating back to the 5th century.  Sigiriya boasts water gardens, boulder gardens, an enormous lion's platform, a mirror wall and impressive frescos. In the early afternoon we will arrive in Kandy for a city tour including the upper lake drive and the market square.  We also visit the sacred Dalada Maligawa which houses the sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha.
There follows perhaps a leisurely stroll along the banks of the lake or even some shopping in this vibrant city. In the evening, we round off this part of your Sri Lanka holiday with a Kandyan Dance performance.

Day 3

Following breakfast we leave for the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Second World War headquarters of Lord Mountbatten. We continue to the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela in time to see the elephants feeding, following their walk down to the banks of the river Maha Oya to watch them bathe and play.
Return to your west coast beach hotel arriving early evening
