There are many interesting places to visit in the Maldives resorts. The main hub of trade and activity of Male' lies at the northern waterfront of the Capital. Here, you can find the Male' Fish Market as well as the Local Market which sells local produce.
The Local Market lies on the northern waterfront a short distance from the Fish Market. Most of the produce in the Local Market comes from the atolls, and all of it is local. Yams, fruits, vegetables, nuts, breadfruit chips, pickles, bananas, homemade sweets, and packets of sweetmeat are some of the items sold here.
The Islamic Centre is another great point of interest. It was completed in 1984. Its mosque is large enough to hold 5,000 people. The Centre also consists of an Islamic library, classrooms, offices, and a conference hall.
The Huskuru Miskiiy, or Friday Mosque, is another interesting Islamic building in the Maldives. This mosque, which was built in 1965, was the main mosque in Male for almost four centuries. This building is filled with traditional workmanship and coral carving. The cemetery surrounding the area is filled with headstones carved from coral.
The Mulee-aage is a palace that lies in front of the Hukuru Miskiiy. It was built in 1906 by Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen III. Wrought iron gates, a garden, and fretwork friezes on the edges of the roof can be seen here.
The National Museum contains a fascinating collection. Some of the items contained here ínclude the rifle used by Mohamed Thakurufaanu when fighting the Portuguese in the 16th century, headgear and umbrellas used by Sultans, statues, thrones, palanquins, and the first printing press ever used in the Maldives.
