Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle covers several towns in the northern central region of the country. These towns include Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura. The region is known as the Cultural Triangle based on the archaeological discovery of 4th Century B.C. ruins that gives the modern world a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. It was mostly in this region that the country’s ancient kings developed advanced civilisations and grew Sri Lanka into what it is today. UNESCO currently protects many areas in the Cultural Triangle as a world heritage sites.
