Koggala beach is a beautiful stretch of clear, soft, golden sand, perfect for long walks, the next bays are Ahangama and Midigama, the beaches are definitely not crowded and at this point on the South Coast some of the best spots on the island can be found for surfing. The Koggala River and Koggala Lake attract nature lovers. Make a visit to one of the Buddhist hermitages which are situated on a couple of islets on the Koggala Lake - the hermitages may be visited with prior permission. The village is sprawling with many little shops, perfect for your daily needs. Many of the little beach restaurants overlook the picturesque Bay offering delicious fresh seafood, there’s no additional charge for the stunning views. There is a lot more to discover in Koggala, take a catamaran ride on the Lake with a local villager who may be willing to take you fishing, alternatively take an adventurous bicycle ride (or Tuk-tuk) along the dirt tracks through the villages that lie on the perimeter and discover some of the wonderful flora and fauna or simply laze away on the beautiful beach occasionally cooling off in the warm waters of the Ocean.
