A Green Philosophy
The management of the Heritance Kandalama have gone to great lengths in an effort to contribute towards safeguarding the delicate eco system of the special environment in which the property is located.
The Hotel, a unique design
The hotel is built into the rock face overlooking the ancient Kandelama Lake, spreading out like the wings of a bird; the hotel runs for a thousand metres from end to end and rises to seven floors, the unique design takes full advantage of the natural rock face in which it sits and appears as a natural extension of the mountainside as it is covered by many species of native plants.
Award winning Eco-design...
The entire hotel is built upon a raised platform resting on columns, allowing rain and spring water to flow freely from the mountainside into the Kandalama Lake - A concept that also facilitates the free movement of animals underneath the hotel, creating minimum impact on the eco system. As little disturbance as possible was caused to the surrounding area during the construction of the property and many native plants throughout the grounds were carefully retained – similarly no fauna and flora have been introduced and no impact has been made on the Kandalama Lake whatsoever. The green philosophy of the hotel has continued leading to a number of awards for its unique eco design.
Wildlife...
At The Heritance Kandalama you do not need to leave the comfort of the Hotel to enjoy the wildlife, here birds nest in the corridors and outside windows. At the start of each day the morning chorus commences as the light rises over the lake, greeting you with a wonderful cacophony of sounds. Throughout the day it is not uncommon to witness Grey Languor’s and monkeys sitting on branches watching with bold curiosity. Occasionally you might be fortunate and spot a member of the deer family that reside in the thicket near the check-in desk, or one of the Elephants that regularly come to quench their thirst at the Kandalama Lake
