Over the four centuries since a Fort was established in Galle any number of visitors have stamped their indelible mark within the ramparts, arriving by sea settlers have included The French, The Dutch and The English as well as marauding pirates. What remains is a rich tapestry of cultures fused together in harmony to create an interesting living vibrant town full of character. Once again the Fort is passing through a period of renaissance as its architecturally fascinating colonial buildings are restored to provide, wonderful restaurants, chic boutiques and first class accommodation for the increasing number of visitors drawn to this United Nations designated World Heritage Site – by day wander through the labyrinth of streets and search out a special souvenir of a wonderful holiday.
