Galle - Sri Lanka

We know that eating out is one of the pleasures enjoyed whilst on holiday and we are pleased to offer the following suggestions as a restaurant guide:

In Galle Fort - Fort Printers, Amangalla and The Fort. In Upper Galle we recommend The Sun House. Or in the general Galle area we suggest Apa Villa in Thalpe, Firefly in Hikkaduwa and The Lighthouse just outside Galle

Good wines are available at most restaurants as well as internationally branded drinks. Prepare yourself for a culinary experience as the food is excellent - not surprising given the quality of fresh vegetables available in the local markets and the variety of locally caught fish. Vegetarians will be particularly impressed although it is worth mentioning this before you arrive. Dress is smart casual in the evening with gentlemen expected to wear long trousers.
At the end of the evening, expect to be pleasantly surprised at the value.

At the other end of the scale there are plenty of roadside food shacks serving up high quality, simply-cooked local food. If you are a foodie, Sri Lankan food is on the up, and Galle is leading the way.
