Given the variety and quality of accommodation now available in Galle and the ease of access to so many fascinating places, it is hardly surprising that Galle is experiencing an increase in interest from tourists who are keen to explore the southern coast of Sri Lanka and beyond. We would recommend the area to those clients who are looking for something with a little more than wonderful beaches.

Tsunami

The city of Galle and the immediate coastal area was affected by the giant wave that struck along the coast in December 2004. However, work to restore those areas touched is mostly completed and little evidence of the cause remains, the local population are now keen to encourage and welcome visitors back once again.
