Bentota - Sri Lanka

From Bentota if you cross the bridge to the North you arrive at a little town called Aluthgama which translated from Sinhalese means New Village. Crossing the river on the rail bridge can prove tricky as some of the sleepers are missing, the road bridge can prove equally challenging because there is no pavement. The simplest way to cross the river is to jump on a tuk-tuk (3 wheeled motorised rickshaw). Once in Aluthgama you will find several shops, a Cargills Foodcity, a pharmacy and four banks. Several express trains also stop at the railway station which can be found about 100 yards from the main road opposite the bus station.
