Bentota - Sri Lanka

Ganga means river in Sinhalese. The banks of the estuary are lined with a dark green forest of mangroves teeming with wildlife. On a boat tour up river from Bentota you will see many species of birds, monkeys and water life especially water monitors and perhaps even crocodiles.

There are several boat houses offering either short or long tours - The longest of which travels 22km upstream visiting the Buddhist Temple Galpotha or Galapatha Vihara which features some fine stonework dating from 150 years BC.

On the estuary from the railway bridge to the ocean there are a few water sport clubs offering an extensive range of water sports with trained instructors.
